Traffic Control Project Complete

At the 2019 annual homeowners meeting, those present requested that the Board of Directors investigate means to control the speed by vehicles on River Oaks Drive.  The board at its next regular meeting in April 2019 approved that the Capital committee investigate Traffic control alternatives of STOP signs, Speed Humps and Radar Speed indicating devices.  At the July 2019 meeting the Board sanctioned a Traffic Control study by a Traffic Engineering firm.  This was done as a result of a recommendation from the St Tammany Sheriff’s Office (STPSO) and the St Tammany Parish Department of Public Works.  Check on link below to get a full description of all that has been done and what else to expect. SLOW DOWN – Over 20% of the 500 vehicles that travel our streets each day exceed the speed limit of 25 MPH – if you see the words “SLOW DOWN” on the sign you are going over 28 MPH.

Traffic Control Implementation

The Board of Directors of River Oaks has approved the implementation of the Speed Control recommendations of consultant JV Burkes. . STOP sign and Speed Limit sign locations have been staked. Installation will begin shortly after all utilities have been located. The Radar Feedback sign has been ordered.  Installation of it will be late December or early January. Please be sure to secure your home and vehicles at all times, and to always call 911 to report suspicious activity. If you see something, say something. Follow these tips to help keep our community, homes and cars safe: If you are traveling… ·        Set an automatic timer for your lights. ·        Lock all home and car doors – this is a must! Criminals look for easy targets and will often move past a locked car or home to find the one that is unlocked. ·        Don’t leave valuables in plain sight – in your home or car. ·        Make sure your garage door is down when you leave. ·        Ask a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on your property.  ·        Stop your deliveries, including newspapers and magazines, and ask the Post Office to hold or forward your mail. ·        Use your burglar alarm each time you leave your home. ·        If planning an extended trip, consider hiring a landscaper or asking a neighbor to mow your lawn.  If you are out for the evening. ·      &nbs! p; Turn on lights or a radio or TV so it appears someone is home. ·        Lock all doors and windows while you are out, even if it is just for a quick trip to the store or walk the dog. ·        Keep your garage door closed. ·        Never leave your purse or other valuables in your car. Street Repairs Update 8-13-19

The contractor has had more problems getting Asphalt to complete further work on the streets.  With the amount of street work going on in the parish, asphalt suppliers are committed out weeks in advance therefore delaying our project.  The contractor has now gone to another source for his asphalt. He is now 20% complete. He has restarted the project on Tuesday, August 13, 2019.  His plan is to complete the project in 2-3 weeks.  He will begin work each day around 7:00 AM. Street Work Update

The contractor has started work. He has saw cut all of the areas to be repaired. The main delay to this point has been the weather and availability of materials. He does not want to open up too many areas at one time if materials are not available on a timely basis. He plans to start excavating some areas next week. He has found an alternate supplier for materials so timely deliver of asphalt should not be a problem now.
